KENYA - Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (KETRACO) operates in Kenya.
Construction of 450km of 400kV and 220kV from Rabai substation near Mombasa to Nairobi.
This consists of;
(i) 26km of 220kV line from Rabai to Mariakani
(ii) 412 km 2x400 kV Rabai-Isinya double circuit transmission line in quad Lark conductors with two overrunning wires of aluminium–clad steel, one of which shall be equipped with a fibre optic wire. The line to be terminated at Isinya, the site of the new substation and operated at 220 kV without implementing Isinya substation.
(iii) 30km of 2x220 kV Isinya-Embakasi double circuit transmission lines to a terminal point about 8km from Embakasi substation in Nairobi. The line will proceed from here to Emabakasi via a different project.
The works have been split into 2 LOTs;
LOT 1 : from Rabai substation upto 160 km at Tsavo.
LOT 2 : 252km from Tsavo to Nairobi.
